DIY wood sign with positive quote

Here we have an stencil full of positivity and motivation, for us to be able to keep shining even in the worst days. Who wouldn't like to daily see a quote like this?

We all know how bad March month is in terms of weather, 'Life is March weather, savage and serene in one hour'. For this month new products we have include this stencil that we now show you applied on one of our wood boards. This DIY vintage sign will surely enlighten your day and motivate us even in bad days. All we need to do this DIY is the following:

• Wood board
• Positive quote stencil from TodoStencil
• Markal Paintstik
• Wax
• Chalk paint
• Paint roll
• Brushes
• Golden Foil
• Mixtion (to apply the foil)

Once we have all the material ready, we can start with the paint first layer. Normally we use darker colours for the base. We have chosen a dark grey.

If we find we need more than one layer and we have a heat gun, it will help the process to be faster. We have used it just not to wait long for it to dry.

Once the base is dry, we apply wax with a brush. We will mainly do it to the edges and junctions of the board. We will also apply some ramdomly and irregularly to the rest of the surface. We have used the following brush to get the desired effect.

After applying the wax, we now paint the final front colour. We chose white to keep the design clean and to create contrast with the grey of the base, but you can choose any colour you like. You will probably need more than one layer for this colour as it is lighter than the base one. You can also use the heat gun here.

On the following picture you can also appreciate how the light reflects over the wax and see how it has been irregularly applied.

Once the paint has been applied and it¡s dry what we will do is to sand the edges and the parts we had put wax onto. This way we will get the old wood vintage effect we wanted. We need to make sure we clean the dust we created with the sanding before we keep working over the board.

Now we can put the stencil on and start applying the Markal paint. This kind of paintstiks are very easy to use and have big benefits comparing to the usual paint. When painting with a stencil it is quite easy fot the paint to get between the stencil and the surface if we are not careful. However, with Markal Paintstiks this does not happen, and we can even lift the stencil half way through to see if the result is the one we want.

As you can see, we have covered the O and its sun rays. He have decided to use golden foil for it instead of the paint, just to stand it up and represent hte sun properly.

When we have finished painting all of the quote, we can take the tape off and put it around the O. We now need to apply mixtion with a brush where the foil will be added. Afterwards, once it has been applied and the stancil taken off, we will place the golden foil over and will press it to ensure it stiks on properly.

Finally, with a smooth brush, like the one used for makeup, we will proceed to remove the foil that has not been stuck to the board.

As the gold was too shiny for us, we decided to make it darker and with an old look with the same Markal paint we used for the rest of the letters. We had never used this technique before, but the result is just as we wanted and it looks awesome!

Now we have finished with our wood sign, which we can hand or place wherever in our home. It is always nice to see a quote like this around!
